Fiat launches new models, plans to double sales this year

Automobile major Fiat India expects to double its sales volume this year at 50,000 units as against the 24,000 units sold last year, a top company official said. "The number of customers in the hatchback segment is growing in India and we want to tap the opportunity," Fiat India president and chief executive officer Rajeev Kapoor told reporters here. "We expect to double our sales from 24,000 units to 50,000 units by December this year," Kapoor said. The carmaker had reported a 78.38% jump in total sales at 2,335 units in February this year. The company today launched its 1.2-litre Punto Fire, Dynamic, and Emotion, priced at Rs4.57 lakh and Rs4.87 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively, taking the battle for the B-plus hatchback segment to a new level. "The hatchback segment has seen 50% growth last year in India. In fact, 60% of car sales happen in this category and we have had a 5.5% market share till now," Kapoor said. "We are now looking at doubling our sales," Kapoor said. The Punto Fire launched today comes with tilt steering, front power windows, fire prevention system, and programmed service reminder in its entry level 1.2 Active variant. The 1.2 Dynamic will offer rear power windows and central locking system and the 1.2 Emotion variant will come with an integrated music system, fog lamps, electric mirrors, dual-tone dashboard, and split seats.
