Shootout at Chandrayaan's data facility

In the wake of intelligence alerts about possible terror strikes at the country's vital installations, the firing outside Isro's Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) at Byalalu, near Bangalore, shook the security apparatus on Tuesday. IDSN forms the core of Chandrayaan-1's scientific data operations. The incident took place at 3.20 am on Tuesday when a CISF guard was reportedly fired upon by two unidentified persons outside the Rs 100-crore hi-tech facility spread over 135 acres. What baffled the security agencies was that there was no evidence of CISF's head constable Bhagawan Jadhav's claim that the two intruders had fired at him. The police have recovered six of the eight empty cartridges fired from his self-loading revolver. According to a statement by Jadhav to IGP (central range), Kamal Panth, he saw two intruders peeping into the complex through the big compound wall through a gadget that resembled binoculars. One of the strangers then reportedly fired from a revolver. The guard then fired back. The exchange took place for four minutes after which the intruders fled. Jadhav told cops that the intruders wore khaki clothes. Despite the darkness, he could see them clearly because the compound was well-lit.
