Fred Auto Show in La Harpe Gibb

Even 16 years after his death, Fred Gibb continues to put the city of La Harpe on the map. Initially, Gibb became known nationally for the special edition car is cranked by Chevrolet dealership in the small town of Hancock County. Now his name is attached to larger showroom area, which brought more than 400 cars to La Harpe for the 11th installment earlier this summer. Ken Brown, one of the founders of Fred Gibb Memorial Open Car Show, said the idea came to the show in 1999, while talking to a man in the street. "I was Fred Gibb jacket on the back of my car and the gentleman who remarked," said Brown. "We just started talking about it and thought it would be nice to have a show in La Harpe." Another of the founders of the show, the Bob Lionberger, said naming the show after Gibb was a no-brainer its name became synonymous with automobiles for decades in La Harpe. "There are some cars that would not have been built if it were not for Fred," said Lionberger, a friend and former employee of Gibb. "He's definitely a name to La Harpe. Gibb owned Chevrolet dealership in La Harpe for over 40 years, but became known nationally in late 1960 to persuade General Motors to build a special edition car. Began when Gibb was involved Games in the sport of drag. Chevrolet came when the Z28 Camaro in 1967, brought into the shop and be amended as a brake on car racing. "It's the car that fought for two years and had mucho success with it», said Lionberger . "The broke all kinds of world records in races drag."

China Mobile Ltd., The world's largest mobile carrier, is pushing e-reading, seeing it as its next big mobile business, the company's chief executive has said. Wang Jianzhou, also China Mobile (CHL - news - people) 's chairman, called e-reading a "new culture" and said he expects such services to grow in China because of the rising popularity of smart phones, which can download content faster than conventional cell phones.Wang said China Mobile is also promoting the use of e-readers, a palm-sized unit that allows people to receive large volumes of content on a screen that does not glare into the eyes like cell phones. The carrier already has 40 million customers who receive news briefs daily with their cell phones. The goal of the campaign is to demonstrate to consumers the value of advanced 3D, the current dynamics in theaters with seating capacities of consumers within the ». At this point, the big screen 3D movies of the summer, including Monsters vs. Aliens and up, will not have any huge 3D effects to DVD and Blu-ray Disc, given the current lack of 3D-enabled equipment at home. Victor de Bonis has work

There was so much wreckage on the ice at GM Place in the late 1990s, it was hard to see the talent in the Vancouver Canucks' Orca Bay board room.Dave Cobb was a vice-president of finance who should have become the National Hockey League team's president and chief executive officer, but eventually left to be deputy CEO of the 2010 Olympics.Arena manager Tom Anselmi became chief operating officer for Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, overseeing Toronto's major-league hockey and basketball franchises.Vice-president of sales John Rizzardini became COO of football's Seattle Seahawks, and former Canuck president John Chapple merely made himself rich, starting Seattle-based cellular company Nextel Partners, which was bought by Sprint Communications in 2006 for $6.5 billion US.And Tod Leiweke, Orca Bay's executive vice-president of business until 1998, is now chief executive officer of Vulcan Sports and Entertainment, billionaire Paul Allen's company that owns the Seahawks and basketball's Portland Trailblazers. Most of the Canucks' management dream team left Vancouver because former Orca Bay CEO Stan McCammon, absentee-owner John McCaw's attorney, left little space for others due to his abrasiveness and ego. McCammon's last act, before Francesco Aquilini restored local ownership to the Canucks, was running off general manager Brian Burke.

Chery Auto aims to sell vehicles

Chery Automobile Co Ltd, the largest private auto maker in China, aims to sell 10,000 vehicles in Brazil by the end of 2010 as part of its overseas expansion plan, the Shanghai Daily reported over the weekend. Chery last week began exporting its Tiggo SUV vehicle to Brazil, officially entering the Brazilian market, and expects new export markets to counter weak demand in existing export markets, according to the report. The Wuhu-based auto maker said it plans to set up 55 dealerships in 14 states in Brazil and aims to sell 2,500 of the 2.0-liter Tiggo SUVs, which are priced at US$25,000, by the end of this year. The company may also begin producing its vehicles in Brazil within three years, said Wang Wei, a senior official from Chery Auto. In July, Brazilian media reported that Chery will set up its Brazilian headquarters in St. Paul, and that the company will produce the Tiggo SUV at a plant there. Chery has resumed preparations for an A-share initial public offering after its application for a domestic listing in June 2008 was shelved due to a market slump amid the global financial crisis, according to previous report by China Knowledge

Stainless Steel Mills increase in Japan

TEX reported that blast furnace mills in Japan have deepened the tendency to increase their production of chrome based stainless steel but, owing to a considerable reduction in production of stainless steel implemented by these mills in the first quarter of 2009, the ratio of chrome based stainless steel products produced by seven blast furnace mills had fallen to 58.5%, having broken the level of 60%. Also, the ratio of chrome based stainless steel products produced by specialized stainless steel companies in the first quarter of 2009 had come down to 37%, having fallen in the same case as that of blast furnace mills. This reduction in production of stainless steel was influenced by the substantial decreases in manufacturing of automobile and its related parts, and the reality, which a 41% of the demand for stainless steel products has relayed on that from automobile industry, has come up to the surface. The quantities of stainless steel products produced in Japan for January to March quarter of 2009 were chrome based stainless steel products: 137,963 tonnes, nickel based stainless steel products: 234,760 tonnes and total: 372,723 tonnes. In comparison with the quantities of stainless steel products produced in Japan for the same quarter of 2008, which were chrome based products: 374,276 tonnes, nickel based products: 482,824 tonnes and total: 857,100 tonnes, those produced for January to March quarter of 2009 had a considerable decrease of 56.5% on the average and, particularly, the output of chrome based stainless steel products in this quarter had a decline of 63.1%.

Software "agents" that automatically negotiate

Software "agents" that automatically negotiate on behalf of shoppers and sellers are about to be set free on the web for the first time. The "Negotiation Ninjas", as they are known, will be trialled on a shopping website called Aroxo in the autumn. The intelligent traders are the culmination of 20 years' work by scientists at Southampton University. "Computer agents don't get bored, they have a lot of time, and they don't get embarrassed," Professor Nick Jennings, one of the researchers behind the work, told BBC News. "I have always thought that in an internet environment, negotiation is the way to go." Price fixing The agents use a series of simple rules - known as heuristics - to find the optimal price for both buyer and seller based on information provided by both parties. Heuristics are commonly used in computer science to find an optimal solution to a problem when there is not a single "right answer". They are often used in anti-virus software to trawl for new threats. "If you can't analyse mathematically exactly what you should do, which you can't in general for these sorts of systems, then you end up with heuristics," explained Professor Jennings.

Pure play riding high intel

In March, Intel announced it would outsource manufacturing of some Atom processors to TSMC, the world's leading foundry. The move could not have been caused by lack of fab capacity, or by the superiority of TSMC's fabs. Intel has the most advanced fabs in the world, is ahead of every other player in process transitions, and at the moment probably has plenty of capacity. The transition was probably about margins, and definitely about customization. Intel with low-margin products like Atom, the risk of a capacity excess due to swings in demand increases, and this risk is compounded by the massive costs of new fab investments. Moreover, TSMC, used to the hustle-bustle of custom orders for custom players and with lots of SoC experience, could customize silicon more for different players more easily than Intel. Santa Clara is hesitant to produce custom models for even the largest customers; Apple's finagling of special-model Core 2 Duo chips for the iMac was quite a coup, and even now these are open to everyone. Now, more details have emerged, as the Taiwan Economic News reports that TSMC will manufacture not only Moorestown's southbridge, but the Atom-based SoC, as well, during this quarter. With both components of the platform on TSMC's process, and subject to customization, Intel's device-manufacturing partners, which so far include LG and Nokia, will be able to order Langwell-derived southbridges customized for the needs of their devices, on TSMC's 65nm process. Presumably, TSMC's SoC expertise has been useful in enabling this. It's also possible that Intel is trying to allay concerns about single-sourcing from handheld vendors, who can point out the massive number of vendors hawking chips in the competitor ARM family. Putting TSMC in charge of some Atom manufacturing is one way to avoid some of those problems on a contract basis, without the renegacy risk of a licensing agreement similar to the one that gave AMD an x86 franchise.

CHINA AUTO's imports achieves

China's auto imports achieved hefty increases over the past five years, but posted a 31.4-percent decrease in the first half of this year amid weak demand caused by the global economic crisis, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said Wednesday. Industry analysts said it was inevitable that auto imports would be on a downward trend this year. However, they said the decrease would ease to less than 10 percent as forecast at the beginning of this year thanks to the government's stimulus measures and a recovering economy. Reports from CAAM showed that sales of imported vehicles totaled 145,900 units during January to June. The value of imports fell 27 percent to US$11.9 billion. There was a 37-percent decline in auto exports in the first half. Ding Hongxiang, chairman and general manager of China Automobile Trading Co, said sales could lift slightly as dealers reduced inventories and a better-than-expected economy boosted market confidence. "But on concerns of the fading impact of stimulus measures and an uncertain economic outlook, auto imports will fall for the whole year to about 370,000 units," Ding said. Last year, auto imports gained 40 percent to 410,100 units. All major segments for imported vehicles suffered less orders in the first half. Half-year sales of imported sport-utility vehicles, once the driving force, declined 27 percent. Car imports slid 33 percent, and demand for minivans tumbled 40 percent. Other analysts believe that the drop is also a result of growing domestic production as car makers tempt buyers with lower-priced vehicles.

Engineers exit the workforce in droves and skilled replacements

In October 2007, the first baby boomer applied for Social Security benefits in the United States. Kathleen Casey-Kirschling was born New Year’s Day 1946, at one second past midnight, making her the first baby of a new generation. Her application to receive Social Security benefits signals the beginning of a drain on skilled workers that will result from the retirement of millions of baby boomers worldwide. You are likely already feeling the impact of these retirements as experienced engineers exit the workforce in droves and skilled replacements are difficult to find. In addition, technology advances have impacted every step of the manufacturing process, from design to production to inventory management, delivery and service. Manufacturing jobs are now technology jobs, and employees must have skills required for today’s workplace. These competitive mandates put a high premium on the skills, morale and commitment of workers, and has created a drought of skilled labor. The good news is that you have options for attracting and retaining a skilled labor force. Anyone working in manufacturing knows about this skilled worker shortage, but most of the general public does not — even though the numbers tell the story. The U.S. Department of Labor forecasts that by 2012 the U.S. economy will have the largest workforce in the nation’s history — more than 162 million people. However, it will not be enough to fill the more than 165 million jobs that are projected to be available. Of those surveyed, 81% of respondents to the Manufacturing Institute/National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) 2005 Skills Gap survey said they could not find qualified workers to fill open positions. Another 83% of manufacturers indicated that shortages are affecting their ability to meet customer demands, with more than half reporting difficulty achieving necessary production levels and 43% reporting difficulties increasing productivity

Car Dealers Optimistics

Confidence levels among traders in the new passenger vehicle market have increased, according to the WesBank Vehicle Sales Confidence Indicator released on Wednesday. "Confidence levels amongst traders in the new passenger vehicle market finally appear to have shifted out of reverse gear and, if not quite into first yet, at least into neutral," Wesbank said in a statement. It added that after six consecutive quarters of decline, the Indicator seemed to have turned a corner by recording a score of 4.3 out of 10 — up marginally from the lowest level of 4.2 reported in May 2009. "The increase in confidence levels is also supported by the improvement in new passenger vehicle sales for July, as was reported by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of SA," Wesbank said. The Indicator also illustrated that the "very active" and "active" sentiment had remained similar to the previous quarter. According to Wesbank, the research indicated that decreasing interest rates, more stable fuel prices, better consumer confidence levels and a general better cost of living outlook were all factors that had aided a shift in the underlying momentum of Indicator. "However, respondents still believe that bank approvals, new vehicle pricing and the current economic climate are the main drivers negatively affecting current activity levels on their showroom floors," Wesbank said. Encouragingly, while the outlook for the rest of 2009 would remain challenging, there was evidence that suggested a more positive outlook was indeed beginning to emerge, it added. Another indication of the improved underlying momentum in the market was the number of new applications received.

Tokyo in the made for japan government scientific

TOKYO - JAPAN plans to deploy unmanned probes to scour the sea-floor around the resource-poor island nation for mineral deposits, a government-backed scientific organisation said on Thursday. Two underwater robots tethered to a ship would explore the seabed for rare metals, said an official of the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (Jamstec), which is set to start the project in fiscal year 2010. Researchers hope to discover minerals such as manganese, cobalt, lead and zinc used in Japanese products from cars to the batteries in IT gadgets. Jamstec, a government-linked agency that specialises in environmental research and marine technology, plans to invest four billion yen (S$61 million) in the probes, the official said. The move comes as Japan, the world's second-biggest economy, tries to break away from its dependence on foreign imports of raw materials and energy. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is trying to secure stable supplies of rare metals amid growing demand from emerging economies that has sparked worries over a supply crunch. 'It is extremely important to ensure stable supplies of rare metals from the standpoint of maintaining and strengthening the competitiveness of Japan's manufacturing industry,' the ministry said in a strategy published last week.

Opening a Small day-Care Center:

Two years after opening a small day-care center in her apartment, Jacqueline Bedoya is expanding. Where she was previously allowed to care for as many as six children, her license to operate the business was upgraded to allow as many as 10. She hired her 18-year-old daughter as an assistant, and thanks to the income she’ll get from the additional clients, she and her husband were able to buy a three-family home to accommodate the business. Bedoya, 37, is one of about 90 Latino entrepreneurs who recently completed a program at the Urban College of Boston aimed at opening or expanding home-based day-care centers, and generating economic activity in low-income neighborhoods. The program has helped Bedoya, who emigrated from Colombia about 10 years ago, transform herself from a low-wage worker cleaning hotels, offices, and hospitals into a business owner with her own home. Bedoya has nearly doubled her income, to about $900 a week, since enrolling in the program and starting her business. She will do even better once she fills the additional slots, at about $150 per child. In just the last week, she’s added two children, bringing her total to eight, and she expects to soon fill the last two openings.

Awarded Clinical Technology Develop:

Adelaide-based clinical technology developer, LabTech Systems, has been granted a patent by the Australian Patent Office for its agar plate streaking technology, which forms the foundation of its MicroStreak system. The technology was invented by John Glasson and Lachlan Smith when working at the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science (IMVS) and was subsequently licensed by LabTech in 2004. MicroStreak is a fully automated system for streaking biological samples on to agar plates, which obviates the need for manual streaking, thus saving labs a significant amount in time and labour. The instrument can process up to 180 plates in an hour, which is substantially more than any human operator can achieve manually. Australian patent, entitled “Microbial streaking device”, covers the methods and design of the agar plate streaker, which was licensed to French diagnostic equipment distributor, bioMérieux, in 2007. It is now marketed worldwide by bioMérieux as the PREVI Isola, incorporating it in to their PREVI range of equipment. For more information on LabTech Systems and MicroStreak technology, see this feature from the July/August 2008 issue of Australian Life Scientist. LabTech Systems (ASX:LBT) is up 21.5% to $0.17 in today's trading.

Automobile Engineers are in Demand

The discovery of crude oil reserves in western Rajasthan has created umpteen job opportunities for petroleum engineers. Similarly, automobile engineers are in demand by the back offices and the production units of some major auto companies in the state. When it comes to recruitment, these sectors look beyond the state's territory for professionals due to unavailability of petroleum and automobile engineers in the state. The state engineering students remain deprived of such lucrative offers in their own state due to unavailability of some of the most popular and sought after' branches of engineering in the state. Some of the popular branches include aeronautical, nano technology, petroleum, remote sensing, automobile and mechanotronics. "None of these branches are available in any of the engineering colleges affiliated with Rajasthan Technical University (RTU).," said Deepak Saxena, head, Students Advisory Bureau. Almost all the state students aspiring to become engineers in these branches have to go to other states. "I took admission in a petroleum institute at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, after I discovered that none of the colleges here offer BE degree in petroleum engineering," said Manmeet Kharbanda, a native of Jaipur.

Car dealers are Still waiting

As consumers continue to cash in on the government's "cash for clunkers" program, local car dealers are still waiting for reimbursement. At Pearson Toyota in Newport News, the dealership has been reimbursed for only two of the more than 80 clunkers it has collected. "The response time that it takes to get approval is unbelievable," said Pearson Toyota general manager Butch Capps. "There's over $300,000 out there that we're waiting for the government to pay." Virginia Automobile Dealers Association spokesman Michael Allen said most dealers are turning to standard business lines of credit when feeling strained by the slow reimbursement process. Allen said that in other cases, dealers are working with their lenders, who might offer to delay receipt of payment as long as interest is paid on the loan. "They're working through it, but for a lot of dealers, it's stretching them to the limit," Allen said. The delay is due to a national backlog in applications. Statewide, dealers have been paid on less than 3 percent of the deals they've submitted, according to a recent survey by the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association. Less than 10 percent of applications have been approved statewide.

Booster Car Sales :

People have come out in droves to trade in their old, gas-guzzling vehicles for brand new, more fuel-efficient models through the "cash for clunkers" government rebate program. Local dealerships have reported sales increases of 30 percent or more in the weeks since it kicked off the last week of July. However, the government has been slow to fill its obligation to the dealers in the form of $3,500 to $4,500 trade-in rebates. "Cash for clunkers," otherwise known as the Car Allowance Rebate System, was signed into law by President Obama in June. It allows people to trade a less fuel-efficient car for one that get better gas mileage with the help of government-funded vouchers worth $3,500 to $4,500. The amount depends on type of vehicle purchased and difference in fuel economy. The Louisiana Auto Dealers Association conducted a survey last week of about 55 dealers statewide. Of the 972 "clunkers" that have been submitted to the government with all the proper paperwork, 127 have been accepted and approved for payment. Of those, only seven have actually been paid. Red River Chevrolet in Bossier City had one of the seven vehicles. "We're waiting for the government to reimburse us," said George Fritze, the general manager and co-owner of Red River Chevrolet. "There is a good deal of concern that we may not get paid." Red River Chevrolet has sold 35 vehicles through the program. Fritze estimates that his dealership is owed about $147,000 in rebates. He said there are a lot of kinks that still need to be worked out of the program before they deem it a complete success. But one thing is for certain about cash for clunkers — it has definitely stimulated car sales.

Science & Electronics and ICT Night

Science Week is on again. Last year more than one million Australians attended national Science Week activities around the country with South Australia playing host to a wide variety of crowd pulling events. This year is no different and once again there are scientific displays, theatrical events, debates and a myriad of science shows. Smack bang in the middle of the week is an activity sure to spark the interest of kids and parents alike. It features presentations, an interactive workshop, panel discussion and displays. Staged by the Electronics and ICT Association (EICTA) the event aims to promote the dynamic electronics and ICT industry and in particular career paths available. One of the key focuses of the event is myth busting by dispelling the nerdy geek image of those put off from entering this exciting industry. “Nerdy geeks couldn’t be further from the truth,” commented Steve Adcock, EICTA CEO. “These days you’re more likely to find outgoing, intelligent, sophisticated young people who work in the recently created fields of nanotechnology, photonics, biotechnology, robotics, biomedical, telecommunications, computer science, information technology, mechatronics and digital media – just to name some of the areas young people can enter,” added Mr Adcock. Mr Adcock added that many students and teachers are simply unaware of the size and scope of South Australia’s thriving electronics and ICT industry. “It employs more than 30,000 people, includes 1,200 companies and produces $7.6 billion in revenue for the State.”

Getting to Know Craps Betting System

Craps is considered to be one of the most exciting casino games, mainly due to the fast game execution. One or more players can win on just a single dice roll, and can also lose in that instant. It all depends on how lucky they are. Another thing that adds to the excitement of craps is the numerous ways on how to bet your money.

Craps and online casino craps is played by rolling a dice. By the way, for those who don't have an idea about it, a die (singular of dice) is a cube shaped object (often made of wood or plastic) with dots engraved on all 6 sides: each side represents the numbers 1 to 6 by the count of dots, ie, one dot represents number 1, two dots is 2, etc. When the dice are rolled, the numbers on the sides of the two dice which are facing top are added and termed as the dice outcome. The shooter of the dice can either win or lose depending on the following situations:
  • Natural: If the shooter rolls the dice and the first dice outcome, which is called the come out roll, is a number 7 or 11, then he wins the game.
  • Craps: If the come out roll is either 2, 3, or 12, then the shooter loses, but still rolls the dice.
  • Point: If any number other than the already mentioned is the come out roll, then a point is established, and the shooter must roll the same number before a number 7 in order to win.
  • 7-out: If a point is established and number 7 is rolled first before the point number is rolled

Depending on the dice outcomes, casinos offer a very wide variety of betting rules where players can place their bets. Craps on every online casino also provides online gamers with more or less the same number of craps betting variants. The shooter of the dice is mainly the center of attraction in playing craps. Players can place their bet on two main betting categories: line bets and side bets.

Line bets

Line bets are the most fundamental and basic bets in the game. This type of bet is resolved with reference to the winning or losing situation of the dice shooter.
  1. Pass Line bet is the bet made by the players where they root on the dice shooter. If the dice shooter wins, then the pass line bet also wins. The bet loses on Craps and 7-out, together with the shooter.
  2. Don't Pass Line bet is the opposite: if the shooter lose either on Craps (except number12) or 7-out, then the Don't Pass Line bet win. If the shooter's come out roll is 12, then it is considered as draw. The bet loses on Natural and if the shooter obtains the point number first before a 7.
  3. Come bet is made after a point is established, and it applies the same rules as the Pass Line bet. However, if the shooter rolled a 7 upon placing the Come bet, then the come bet wins, but the shooter loses, together with the Pass Line and Come bets made before it.
  4. Don't Come bet is the opposite of Come bet, and applies the same rules as the Don't Pass Line Bet.
  5. Odds bets are bets made to reinforce the Pass Line and Don't Pass Line bets, as well as the Come and Don't Come bets.

Side Bets

Side bets, also called Proposition bets, are bets on craps that are based on the outcomes of the dice rolls. There are three types of side bets, namely, the Single-roll bets, Multi-roll bets, and the Player bet.

Single-roll bets are those that are resolved on a single dice roll.
  • Aces or Snake Eyes - bet that number 2 will be rolled
  • Boxcars, Cornrows, or Midnight - bet for number 12
  • Ace-Deuce - bet for number 3
  • Yo - bet for number 11
  • Hi-Lo - bet that either number 2 or 12 will be rolled
  • Any Craps or Three-Way - bet for either 2, 3, or 12
  • Any Seven - bet for number 7
  • C & E - combined bet for both Any Craps and Yo (11), where only one of the two bets may win
  • Field bet - bet where the player wins on either 3, 4, 9, 10, or 11, and wins double on 2 and 12, but loses if the dice outcome is either 5, 6, 7, or 8
  • Horn bet - a bet for each of the numbers 2, 3, 11, and 12 at the same time, which results to four separate bets where only one of the bets may win
  • Whirl bet or World bet - the Horn bet + Any Seven bet, resulting to a five-unit bet for each of the numbers of the Horn and the number 7. If number 7 wins, it is a draw or push, because the bets lost on the Horn is won in the number 7.
  • On the Hop - bet on any resulting combination of the come out roll, such as 3-5, 4-2, 3-3, etc. A player can choose whether to bet on double numbers (2-2, 3-3, etc.) or different numbers (3-5, 2-3, etc.)

Multi-roll bets are bets that are resolved by one or more dice rolls.
  • Place bet - a bet on any of the point numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10) to be rolled before a 7
  • Buy bet - a bet similar to the Place bet, butwith better payouts for a 5% commision charge if it wins
  • Lay bet - a bet on any of the point numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10), in which it wins if number 7 is rolled first before the number, and is charged a 5% commision
  • Big 6 - a bet on number 6 to be rolled before 7
  • Big 8 - a bet on number 8 to be rolled before 7
  • Hard Way - a bet on one of the numbers 4, 6, 8, or 10 to be rolled, with the dice showing similar numbers, before the number 7
  • Easy Way - bet for one of the numbers 4, 6, 8, or 10 to be rolled, with the dice showing different numbers, before number 7

A Player bet is a bet placed on the dice shooters. The Fire bet is one type of player bet, where the players can bet on one or more point numbers to be obtained and won by the shooter in more than three times in a row.

It is essential to know where to put your bets if you want to enjoy and win on both offline and online casino craps. On the mentioned craps betting rules, the best way for you to play longer is to bet on the Pass Line and Come bets, and frequently reinforcing with odds bet, for they offer the best winning situations. Even though Don't Pass Line and Don't Come bets have a higher chance of winning compared to the former, most experienced players avoid these bets because they don't like to be in contrast of the dice shooter.

Most of the time, proposition bets are considered to be bad bets because of the very high advantages of the house in taking your money. The payouts offered are very large in some, but there are only small chances of winning. Big 6 and Big 8 are avoided by experienced craps players, because these bets can be paid better in Place 6 and Place 8 bets in similar winning odds.

Craps is a vary fast game. Playing on online casino craps is very much faster, compared to brick and mortar casino craps, because everything is programmed: the dice can produce faster results and the bets are processed instantly. Online craps is best suited for those players who want to win and lose money fast.

UK Government calls on technology

The UK government is calling on technology experts and scientists to help identify emerging threats from terrorists who seek to harness new developments in IT and other technologies. In a brochure released this week, the Home Office said that it wants experts to come forward and contribute ideas to counter-terrorism agencies such as the police, military and security services. “The UK currently faces a real and serious threat from terrorism and we need to utilise our position as a world leader in science and technology to counter this," said security minister Lord West. "The UK is a leading innovator in the design and provision of defence and security solutions. British technology can have greater practical applications across the world and is just one more tool in our fight against those who would wish to do us harm.” The call for ideas coincides with the publication of the government's three-year Science and Technology Counter Terrorism Strategy this week includes aims such as working with international partners on counter terrorism-related science and technology. In the report, the government highlighted the growing threat from potential "cyber-threats". "The UK is increasingly reliant on networked communication, but the very open nature of our digital infrastructure makes it vulnerable to attack," the report states. "In response to this the Government has recently published the first Cyber Security Strategy for the United Kingdom, which sets out the UK’s strategic cyber security objectives and incorporates a cyber security industrial strategy. In the next three years we continue to expect terrorist groups to favour high-profile ‘conventional’ or ‘unconventional’ operations over cyber attacks, but we must be vigilant against any increase in capability or change in intent." Most experts agree that there has never been an actual incident of "cyber-terrorism" recorded as terrorism is usually defined as resulting in loss of life. The issue of politically-motivated cyber-attacks was highlighted by the recent distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks against Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites which have been linked to the conflict between Russia and Georgia in August 2008.

Singapore terminals hand container Traffic

Singapore port terminals handled 5.9 percent more containers in July than in June, but traffic plunged 18.6 percent from a year earlier, data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore showed. The numbers show trade at the world's busiest container port has improved as the global economy slowly pulls out of its worst slump in decades. Most containers passing through Singapore's port are transshipments between East and West, and so are a barometer of world trade. The July figures come as the Singapore government narrowed down an expected contraction of 2009 non-oil exports to 10-12 percent. However, while July container throughput was the highest since November 2008, the government and private analysts said it was too early to say if Singapore is seeing a strong, sustained trade recovery. "For now, the global demand story remains tepid, and hence export demand weakness across both non-electronics and electronics could linger for a couple more months," said economist Selena Ling of OCBC bank. Singapore relies on exports for about 60 percent of its economy, and will report July export data on Friday. (To read an analysts forecasts of the data, click on) State-owned PSA International, which runs ports around the world, said container volumes at its Singapore port fell 17.8 percent in the year to July, versus the same period a year ago. The world trade downturn has battered shipping firms such as Singapore's Neptune Orient Lines and pushed Singapore into its deepest ever economic contraction in the first quarter.
