LG denies 15,000 3D TV deal with Sky

LG Electronics has today issued a correction on a press release claiming that Sky had purchased 15,000 of its 3D TVs for installation in public houses. A release issued yesterday by the Korean electronics firm referenced a specific commercial deal with Sky for the supply of 15,000 3D-ready sets. LG confirmed that it is supporting Sky's forthcoming new 3D channel by supplying compatible TVs to pubs and clubs in the UK and Ireland. However, the firm stressed that the figure of 15,000 sets is "inaccurate". "Sky is helping support its commercial customers purchase TVs direct from a UK third-party," said an LG spokesman. "Supporting the rollout of Sky 3D represents a great opportunity for both LG and Sky to bring ground-breaking technology to the UK public and a significant step forward in our desire to showcase the latest TV technology in action." Sky's new 3D service will launch to selected pubs next month, before expanding to the firm's top tier TV customers later in the year.
