FIAL aims 8 percent marketshare of total passenger 2 lakh

On the sidelines of launching its superhatch-Grande Punto-at New Delhi, Fiat India Automobiles Limited (FIAL), on 17th June, 2009, has said that it is aiming to sell over two lakh cars in the domestic market by 2015 and corner 8 per cent market share of the total passenger car segment by that time. It is to be mentioned that the 50:50 joint venture between Italy-based Fiat SpA and Tata Motors, has managed to sell only 8,000 cars last fiscal. "We want to be an important player in India. We are looking at achieving sales of 70,000 cars by end of 2010 and hope to increase it by three times during the following five years to cross the figure of two lakh units annually," Fiat Group Chief Operating Officer (International Operations) Silverio Bonfiglioli told reporters in New Delhi, adding the fact that the future of automobile market lies on BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) countries, which will compensate the slowdown in Europe and the US. When queried about the numbers the company is looking at for the recently-launched Grande Punto, Bonfiglioli said: "We are expecting to sell 2,000-2,500 units per month.
