Advisory meeting for 2010 held in Jinan

As college students become increasingly worried about finding jobs after graduation, China's Ministry of Education is promoting graduate school as an alternative to work. In eastern China's Jinan City Sunday, some 10,000 college graduates and students mobbed a grad-school preparation seminar sponsored by the ministry's Science and Technology Development Center. As new or prospective job-seekers, many said they've been forced to consider further study in the midst of the ongoing global financial crisis. So most of my classmates, even the juniors are preparing for the postgraduate entrance exam. Soundbite: Liu Yiling, a student Because of the economic downturn, we think applying for postgraduate studies could ease the employment pressure; at least it could be postponed for two years. According to statistics from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, over 6 million graduates will enter the job market in 2009. Another 900,000 grads from previous years remain unemployed. Such employment competition has made post-graduate study increasingly attractive, especially among those who have no concrete career plans.
