Shanghai General Motors Co Ltd (Shanghai GM), General Motor Corp's passenger car venture with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp (SAIC), has raised its full-year sales target for 2009 to 580,000 units from the previous 500,000 units, the Shanghai Securities News reported. The first-half sales results were much better than expected, said Shanghai GM President Ding Lei, adding that he is confident that vehicle sales in the second half of this year will continue to grow despite unknown factors. Shanghai GM sold 288,843 vehicles in the first half of this year, up 16.1% year on year. Sales of its best-selling Buick models grew 34% from a year earlier to 195,989 in the period. In June alone, sales at Shanghai GM hit a monthly record of 60,356 units, up 59% from a year earlier. In the next few months, Shanghai GM will unveil new models that will include the new Buick Regal 2.0T and the all-new Cadillac SRX to maintain sales growth in the Chinese market. GM's China sales increased 38% year on year to 814,442 units in the first half of this year, mainly boosted by the government's stimulus measures. Its monthly sales jumped 61.6% from a year earlier to 143,294 units in June.
