India Signs MoU with Lesotho

Taking a step ahead in the field of Communications, Science and Technology, Gurudas Kamat, minister of State for Communications and Information Technology signed an MoU with his counterpart Mothetjoa Metsing on Wednesday. The MoU aims at linking Lesotho with Pan African e-Network. The network focuses on providing tele-education particularly tele medicine services and VVIP connectivity among Heads of the States. The Kingdom of Lesotho becomes the 36th country to sign the Agreement. The project makes it easier for the African students to pursue their studies from India while being at home. With the revolution in tele-medicine, online consultation was discussed chiefly to benefit both the countries. An estimated budget of Rs.542.9 crore has been sanctioned from the Government of India to this aid. Telecommunications Consultants of India (TCIL) will implement this project by procuring the installation of the network,and handling the Operation&Management services for five years. Presiding over the function, R K Upadhyay, Chairman and MD, TCIL said, "TCIL already commissions Ethiopia Pilot Project and this would be the next part of the project”. One the batch of students is already undergoing its MBA course conducted by IGNOU through Tele-education set up by TCIL. Stressing on the fact that the TELECOM sector remains untouched by recession, Upadhyay welcomed the initiative by both the countries.
