Science and Technology Journalism UNESCO

UNESCO and the African Union Commission (AUC) signed yesterday a Special Agreement to collaborate on journalism training on science and technology in Africa. The Agreement was jointly signed by Abdul Waheed Khan, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, and Jean-Pierre Ezin, African Union Commissioner for Human. Resources, Science and Technology. Under this Agreement, UNESCO and AUC will cooperate to strengthen journalism training in science and technology through the potential centers of excellence and the potential centers of reference in journalism training in Africa (identified by UNESCO in 2007). Both Organizations will cooperate to create continent-wide and international synergies to provide support for the development of regional science and technology networks for journalism students and media professionals. Their overall goal is to improve the range and scale of journalism training in reporting on science and technology in Africa.
