How do I control my personal information in chat?
You can choose to appear offline to specific colleague list in IM. Simply select the "Go Offline" off the top of each friend you want to appear as offline. You will no longer appear as ready to chat with people on these lists.
How can I prevent a friend from chatting with me?
You can block a friend from chatting with you by putting them on your buddy list, and then choose to go offline
to your friends list.
If you prefer that your friend will no longer be able to contact you on Facebook, you can block them by typing their name in the Block List search box at the bottom of the Privacy settings.
Can anyone on Facebook to contact me in chat?
Only confirmed friends can contact you through Facebook Chat.
How do I delete or look through my Chat history? Is it saved permanently?
You can see recent conversation history by opening a chat window with your friend. You can not see older conversations at this time or conversations with friends who are not currently online.
To clear your chat history just click the "Clear Chat History" link at the top of your chat window. While message history is saved from page to page, and even between login sessions, please note that it is not logged permanently.

How do I start a conversation with someone using Facebook Chat?

You can send an instant message, simply write your message and then press "Enter" or "Return" on your computer keyboard.
Note: you can only message with your confirmed friends using Facebook Chat.
What happens when I send someone an instant message?
Your message will be displayed in a new IM conversation in the bottom of your friend's browser. Your friend can chat again by typing in the conversation window.
How come I do not have Facebook Chat?
If you experience problems with Facebook Chat, you can upgrade your browser.
If you use Internet Explorer 6.0, you can still use chat by popping out the chat window. Just click the Chat button at the top right of any page on Facebook to start chatting.
What does the green dot and Halfmoon icons in Chat represent?

Friends considered idle when they have not taken any measures at the construction site in the last 10 minutes. If I have a lot of conversations going on at once, can I open a new window to chat with them?
You can open a dedicated Facebook Chat window by opening the chat menu in the lower right corner of your browser and click on "Pop Out Chat" link. Their talks will return to the main window when you close the dedicated chat window.
Can I keep Online Friends section open all the time?
Sure. Click on the Chat icon in the lower right and then click "Preferences". Check the box next to "Keep Online Friends Open" to keep this section are available at all times. Uncheck the box returns to the chat room to automatically hide this section.
How do I turn Pop-up instant messaging?
You can turn off certain types of pop-up messages if you do not wish to receive them. When a message appears, click the "X" to close it. You will be asked if you want to permanently turn off for future assessments of the same type. For example, if you choose to delete a message permanently posted at the links, you will not receive more messages sent links from your friends.
Can I chat with more than one person in the same conversation?
At this point you can only chat with people on a one-to-one basis. Group chat is not available.
Can I use Facebook Chat with a desktop IM program?
We currently do not support the use of Facebook Chat with third party applications.
What is the red message that appears at the bottom of Facebook?
When people take actions on Facebook related to you, like commenting on a picture of yourself or posting on your wall, a red notification will appear on Facebook Chat icon (even offline). Clicking on the notification dialog will allow you to see stories related to these actions, and you can quickly see the contents by clicking on the links in the stories.
How do I change my chat?
Let your confirmed Facebook friends know that you are ready to chat, click the chat icon in the lower right corner of the browser window when signed into Facebook and choose "Go online" from the window that appears. You can click "Go Offline" link at any time to stop receiving messages through Facebook Chat.
Is there an option to remove Facebook Chat or go offline to all my friends?
Unfortunately you can not remove Facebook Chat at this time. To appear offline to everyone:
1.Click on "Chat" on the bottom toolbar.
2.Select "Preferences".

How can I go offline for some Friend Lists? :
To go offline for a Friend list, click the white circle to change the status bar from green to gray. Go offline for a certain friend list will not remove buddy list will appear in your chat window.
