HTC to Launch Touch2 Windows Mobile 6.5 phone

Smartphone maker HTC said it will release the Touch2 -- its first Windows Mobile 6.5 touch screen device

The Taiwan-based company said the Touch2 includes new Windows Mobile 6.5 features such as a redesigned Internet Explorer Mobile browser with Flash support, access to Windows Marketplace for Mobile and Microsoft's "My Phone" Web backup service.

Using HTC's TouchFlo 3D interface, the handset's 2.8-inch touch-sensative screen has a dedicated "zoom bar" to resize text and pan to find things more easily.

It also has a 3.2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi access, high-speed HSDPA Internet, GPS with Google Maps and a microSD expansion slot.

"The HTC Touch2 delivers a familiar touch experience that millions of people have come to expect and rely on from HTC in their daily lives, said HTC CEO Peter Chou. "Whether it's making a call, checking in with a friend or simply responding to an important email, the HTC Touch2 puts you in touch and in control."

Microsoft announced that its new Windows Mobile 6.5 software would feature an updated look, redesigned Internet Explorer Mobile browser, added access to Facebook and Twitter and a "wide variety" of other applications.

Sony Ericsson also unveiled its Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone, the Xperia X2

HTC said the Touch2 will be available in select markets on October 6 and broadly released in Europe and Asia the fourth quarter.
