Why Are Plasma TVs So Slim

If plasma TVs can be so thin, why have we spent decades with those bulky, oversized sets TV record an entire corner of the room? The answer lies in technology.

To understand why plasma TVs can be so thin, you should start by understanding why traditional television sets of the past could not. These televisions are typically used tubes as a means to produce images. There were several problems with snakes, including their size. The size of pipes inside a television depended on the amount of screen space the image was expected to fill.

It was not set to "size test" until the people were disappointed with the typical 20-inch screen, and began demanding larger screens. Producers were happy to meet the requirements, but there was a problem. Dimensions of tubes is predetermined. If you want a bigger screen, you must be prepared to project a larger image. Larger image requires a larger pipe. It has always been a given that the size of the television set was dependent on the amount of "stuff" that was mounted before. Larger pipes meant major cases.

If you think the average size of a 20-inch televisions, used tube technology, can you imagine how big the case should be in order to project an image of a 32-inch, 40 inch or larger screen.

In contrast, a plasma TV is no need for the tubes to project the image. Plasma TV, through its technology, be located in a very thin case. Instead of having tubes that project an image on the big screen, plasma television works by lighting up phosphor coating at different times to create the images provided by the signal.

The result is that plasma television displays require very little space other than space to display and phosphorus. Actually the whole package is actually thin enough that they can be fitted - to create a viewing experience is only conceivable with tube-type television technology. It also means that the thickness of the screen can be virtually constant, even while the width and height of the screen increases dramatically.

When you think about where technology is and where it comes from, you will see that the big television set in a decade ago was not just a fad. These cases were not set up that big just to give a tribute to mother's favorite flower arrangement or wedding photo. It was just a matter of providing a case for the technology.
