The two-way radios popularly known as walkie-talkie has a push-to-talk or (Press to Transmit) button to activate the transmitter. The radios can be divided into two categories: the first type act on Family Radio Service (FRS) and second runs on ordinary Mobile Radio Service (GMRS). For personal use FRS radios are used and they are cheap compared with GMRS. If weather permits, they can send signals at a maximum range of 2 miles. GMRS radios, on the other hand, is more expensive but has a higher connectivity range and can transmit signals to a maximum distance of 10 miles.
These radios come with more features. These features include the use of private code to protect the system against being caught by other radio users, system of reduced interception and different ways to get call alerts when a new message on the road. Some extremely efficient radios are equipped with features like barometer, thermometer, digital compass, AM / FM radio and GPS navigation device.
These radios to help the user to be connected wirelessly. Not only that, they are cost effective too. Another advantage of two-way radios is that they are very user friendly. To add to this, their batteries are very durable and can occur anywhere quite easily. The parents not afford expensive mobile phones for their children can give them radio to stay connected.
Interesting to note is that the first phase of these radios were used only by military and police, but has now trickled down to the masses and become enormously popular.
